Our story

Smart Sport Foundation was created to empower Africa’s next generation of athletes and coaches by building opportunity, access, and long-term impact both on and off the court.

Founded in 2021, the Foundation began with Founder, Ikenna Smart’s, simple idea: sports can be a powerful vehicle for education, leadership, and community development. What started as a grassroots effort to provide training and resources for young basketball players has grown into a multi-country initiative that nurtures talent, strengthens coaching systems, and opens pathways for athletes to reach their full potential.

Through camps, clinics, and partnerships with schools and local organizations, Smart Sport Foundation focuses on developing the whole person, not just the player. The lessons learned through sport—discipline, teamwork, resilience, and purpose—extend far beyond the game itself.

Today, Smart Sport Foundation continues to expand its reach across Africa. Its programs remove barriers, provide mentorship, and invest in the future leaders of sport. Every program, partnership, and success story brings the Foundation closer to its vision of a future where every athlete, regardless of background, has the support and opportunity to thrive.
